Pilsen Alliance would like to thank Nelson Soza for his years of service and contributions to the Pilsen community.

Nelson Soza is originally from Chile and he has been an activist, labor and community organizer for over 25 years in Chicago. In his native Chile he was also a student leader and activist.

Nelson worked as an organizer for AFL-CIO where he led the famous boycott of V & V supremo and successfully organized workers for their labor rights.

During the past five years, Nelson led Pilsen Alliance where he helped our community to keep open two neighborhood schools that were on the closing list (Jungman and Pilsen Academy). He was one of the leaders on the successful environmental justice campaign that closed the coal plants.

As Exectuive Director the organization has led important issues of housing, education, environmental justice and labor rights immigration rights.
More recently, Nelson was one of the hunger strikers in the Dyett High School struggle, as he has a strong supporter of public education. He was also served as a board member of the Metropolitan Tenants Association (MTO), and has led the Pilsen Alliance efforts to find housing alternatives for low income residents in our community and keep Pilsen affordable.

We wish Nelson the best on his new endeavors and we are grateful for all his work with us.
